Vaccination against FMD

ITANAGAR, Nov 24: Vaccination of domestic animals against FMD was carried out at Lorputung village near Zoo campus today.

The vaccination programme was carried out under the guidance of Biological Park VO Dr Tumge Ete for prevention of FMD in Zoo as the disease may spread to Zoo animals if necessary preventive measure is not taken within its fringe areas.

The FMD vaccines were procured from Veterinary Hospital Naharlagun free of cost.

 

House gutted

ITANAGAR, Nov 24: The Kargu Kardi Welfare Society (KKWS), in a release informed that the dwelling house of one of its members Marde Poyom was reduced to ashes in a fire accident yesterday at Aalo.

While appealing to its members at Aalo and Capital Complex to extend help to the victims for quick rehabilitation of the family, who has lost all belongings in the fire, KKSU cautioned all to be extra cautious while handling fire during the dry seasons. It also appealed to the West Siang district administration for providing immediate relief to the victim.

 

Annual school week

ITANAGAR, Nov 24: The 14th Annual School Week of Government Secondary School, Rajiv Gandhi University Complex was inaugurated by former MLA Ngurang Pinch today.

On the occasion, Pinch said “youth is the most vibrant and resourceful section of our society and if harnessed properly, it can serve as a potent force for development and nation building activities”.

Briefing the importance of extracurricular activities, he said this kind of annual sports week develop the personality of the youth and help inculcate in them a spirit of social service and social harmony.

Pinch also highlighted the role of teachers and advised the students to maintain discipline.

MAS conference held

ITANAGAR, Nov 24: Madu Abu Society (MAS) conducted its first conference cum workshop at Hachi village, Pania circle from November 19 to 22.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, MLA Takam Pario called upon the people to discourage early marriage saying that the system of early marriage in our society has been the main cause of all trouble and unemployment. Such system should be abolished and stopped at once, he opined.

He advised the gathering to restrict marriage within close clans and advised the younger generation to well verse with genealogy of their own clan. He further encouraged the people to engage themselves in commercial cultivation of Agri-Horti, Poultry, Piggery and Dairy farming and assured award for successful farmers of his constituency.

Circle Officer Rido Tarak said that any welfare society should not be used for fighting against other society.

Later, he released MAS bye laws on the occasion.

MAS Chairman Madu Dugi Tajik briefed the aim and objectives of the society formation.

Earlier, Pario laid the foundation stone of Madu Abu Society at Hachi.

AMSAWS convention

ITANAGAR, Nov 24: The All Mechukha Boh Ramo Bokar (Adi) Elite Society, now rechristened as All Mechukha Sub-Division Adi (BRB) Welfare Society (AMSAWS), in its recently held convention, has discussed the various socio-economic problems of the area.

Some of the major issues discussed in the meeting were, up-gradation of Tato Middle School to secondary school, posting of circle officer and staff at Pidi circle, establishment of independent police station at Tato and Monigong, creation of Mechukha sub-division as border district, posting of medical officers at Tato and Monigong etc.

 

 

Laa Talar wins badminton bronze

ITANAGAR, Nov 24: Laa Talar of Arunachal Pradesh pairing with KP Chitenya of Andhra Padesh won bronze medal in the 37th Junior National Badminton Championship held in Imphal, Manipur from November 10 to 18.

Talar was awarded cash prize of Rs.5000 along with merit certificate.

He is currently participating in Gautum Thakkar Memorial Junior Invitational Badminton Tournament in U-17 and U-19 year category in Mumbai. He was due to play semifinals match in U-17 year category today.

Linggi among five leaders

ITANAGAR, Nov 24: Bharat Linggi, Biswajit Pukhun, Dr Taga Nalo, Takhe Pai and Gandhi Konia were leading with 3 point each after the end of the third round in the 4th State Level Chess Tournament at Nirjuli today.

The leaders were closely followed by Gapor Dupit , Nabam Kayang, Talar Kamsar, Tapi Shah, Nampi Gasing Tamin, Tabu Dupit and Kani Genda with 2.5 points.

Tachung Dupit, of Upper Subansiri and Tami Jetli of Kuru Kumey were leading with 2 points each in under-15 year category.

In Female category, Chemen Qayyam of Upper Subansiri was leading others with one point.

In veteran group, Taw Baki of Upper Subansiri earned 2 points and Damlin Yongam and Tago Josam, both from West Siang  collected 1.5 point each.

Eight out of the total 13 international rated players of Arunachal Pradesh are vuying with each other for the top honour, according to All Arunachal Pradesh Chess Association.

 

 

EPS constructs ‘Mani’

ITANAGAR, Nov 24: Environmental Protection Society (EPS) of Arunachal Pradesh under its “Old age care programme” constructed a Buddhist prayer wheel (Mani) at Bongleng village of Tawang in memory of an old lady namely, Sang Drema, who died at aged 90 years last month.

The ‘Mani’ has been constructed as per Buddhist tradition for eternal peace of Drema, who was complete blind. The society expressed gratitude to those who have contributed generously for the construction of the prayer wheel.

 

ACS commends city police

ITANAGAR, Nov 24: Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) has commended the City Police for the well done job in apprehending the culprits involved in the assault on Associate Editor of Echo of Arunachal recently.

The society hoped that Capital Police under the leadership of present Superintendent of Police would solve the still unsolved some cases, like burning down of SE Office (PWD),APST buses, vehicle of the Chief Secretary, rural bank rubbery etc.

The Society while expressing grave concern over the ‘deteriorating’ law and order of the state capital, appealed to the chief minister and his cabinet colleagues to evolve mechanism to effectively deal with the situation.

 

Inservice teachers training

SEPPA, Nov 24: In-service refresher course for teachers on CCE and innovative teaching techniques was conducted at BRC Bameng.

Emphasis was laid on ensuring quality and spirit of training. CCE related relevant tropics like need, concept and scope of CCE, role of school and teachers in CCE at elementary level, assessment of co-scholastic areas, tools and techniques for CCE, language teaching were the main tropics related to CCE.

There was also practical session on filling up of record register and progress report for which printed modules developed in brief form by Pedagogy coordinator Seppa were supplied to all the participants.

In addition, innovative teaching techniques like child centred approach, activity based teaching, use of MLE and development of TLM and effective use of TLM in teaching learning process and setting up of balanced question papers were also taken by S.D. Pandey Lecturer DIET, R.Pathak Pedagogy coordinator, G. Mishra DRG, L.Pabing BRCC and P Pabing BEO Bameng.

Five training course for in-service teachers were already conducted at Chayang Tajo, Pipu, Sede, Seppa and Bana. Two batch of training of five days each for resource persons, Master Training and faculty were also conducted at Govt. Middle School Pacha from October 26 to 31.

The Pedagogy cell, Seppa has also planned to organise workshop in Middle and Secondary School to develop TLM and equip them for enhancing educational environment of the school. DIPRO

 

CM meets central leaders  

NEW DELHI, Nov 24: Going ahead with official business, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today called on Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde here at New Delhi. He discussed various issues with the Union Minister and focused particularly on issues related to development and security of the state.

Tuki also called on Union Minister of Water Resources Harish Rawat later in the day. He was accompanied by WRD Minister Newlai Tinkhatra. The leaders had an extensive discussion regarding Central Financial Assistance for Integrated Flood and River Erosion Management (IFREM) for Arunachal Pradesh.

The Union Minister assured full support for early sanction of the projects to mitigate flood related issues and irrigation packages for the state.

High level officials of the Union Ministry of Water Resources and representatives of the Central Water Commission were also present in the meeting.

Huge cache of psychotropic drugs seized at Banderdewa

BANDERDEWA, Nov 24: One Diganta Gogoi alias OT of Naharlagun was arrested by Banderdewa police near the check gate here today and a cache of drugs comprising 3096 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon and Nitrosun tablets along with Dendrite tubes was recovered from his possession.

A case (No 43/12 u/s 21 (c)/22/27) under Narcotics and Psychotropic Substance Act has been registered against the peddler, Banderdewa PS SI Krishnendu Dev informed.

Banderdewa police also today rescued a minor girl (aged about 4 years), who had been kidnapped for trafficking, and handed her over to her parents. Two men have been held in the matter and a case (No 41/12 u/s 363/34 IPC) registered against them.

 

 

Pare Rangers, East Siang, Gorkhas and Papum Pare in Super 8

SEPPA, Nov 24:  Kurung Kumey made their exit from the 3rd Yaja Waii Memorial T20 Cricket Championship 2012-13 after losing their match to East Siang Cricket Club today.

Chasing a target of 130 run set by East Siang Cricket Club to win, Kurung Kumey fell short by 53 runs as the team was bowled out for 76 runs in 16.2 overs.

Skipper Tayum was the top scorer for Kurung Kumey. He made 19 runs from 31 balls with three hit to the fence.

India Taruk bagged four Kurung Kumey wickets and conceded only 12 runs from his 3.2 overs. Arun Tayeng claimed two wickets.

Later, Arun was declared man of match for his two wicket haul and 42 runs from bat, which was sponsored by Netan Tsering.

Earlier, openers Arun Tayeng and Kabit Mengu gave a flying start to East Siang Cricket Club. Arun’s 44 balls, 42 knock included seven powerful boundaries. Kabit Mengu made 27 runs with help of three fours from 36 balls.

However, Bengia Arun and Damin Reru put a temporary halt to Siang’s progress by claiming the wickets of Kabit Mengu  and Arun Tayeng. Oni Dai capitalized the Kurung Kumey’s poor bowling attack and struck three sixes and one four to add 30 runs on score board. However, Dai was stumped by Vineet Kumar in Lalit Vagle’s spell.  

Papum Pare District Cricket Association showed the exit door for Fire Brand Bomdila by defeating them by 5 wickets in the afternoon match today.

Papum Pare invited Bomdila to bat first after they won the toss and restricted them in 134 runs in 20 overs.

Earlier, ailing Bomdila was beaten by The Gorkhas on Thursday. With this defeat, Bomdila bade adieu to the tournament.  

Chasing the target, Man of the Match Techi Doria led Papum Pare to register win in their first match in 19.5 overs with his splendid unbeaten 64 runs from 47 balls. He hit 10 boundaries and one six.

Giving impressive partnership to Doria was Skipper Teli Out, who scored 20 runs off 29 balls.  

Deepak Lama was the only impressive bowler from Fire Brand Bomdila, who hauled three wickets in his four spells giving away 15 runs.

BB Pradhan’s 36 runs off 41 balls and Lobsang Jambey’s 30 runs off 13 (3x6, 2x4) went in vain. Teli Doria and Tana Radh bagged four wickets each.

Pare Rangers and East Siang Cricket Club from Pool B and The Gorkhas and Papum Pare District Cricket Association from Pool C have made their place in Super Eight, which is slated to begin on November 28.

 

Concern over delay in reconstruction of collapsed bridge

RUKSIN, Nov 24: The Bailey Bridge over Ngorlung River on Mirem-Mikong-Jonai (MMJ) road which was caved in on June 23 night is yet to be repaired by the PWD, which is causing dissatisfaction among to the local people.

No step has been taken so far for reconstruction of the collapsed bridge even after repeated assurance by the local MLA and the state’s PWD minister, which has made life of the local people of Ngorlung, Niglok and Mikong villages under Ruksin circle miserable.

Further, the worn-out condition of the 14-km-long MMJ road has added woes to the people. The dilapidated road with numerous potholes all across the road from Ruksin to Mirem Tiniali put the movement of vehicles at risk. The road, which connects Bilat circle with Ruksin headquarters, is the lifeline for the people interior villages. Those few passenger buses and light vehicles, which used to ply on the route on daily basis, but have stopped plying after breaking of the Bailey bridge.

The officials of PWD department had reportedly moved the government for grating fund for renovation of MMJ road. As such, three projects were submitted to the authority for approval but nothing has been fruited so far. The senior citizens of the area, including some PRI leaders have criticized the role of the local MLA alleging his indifferent attitude towards the people’s problem.

The local leaders of the area, including PRI members, student union and Ruksin Area Youth Front and others repeatedly submitted petitions to the authority urging early restructuring of the collapsed bridge at Ngorlung, but it is all in vain.

It may be mentioned here that Finance, Planning & PWD Chowna Mein along with West-Paighat MLA Tangor Tapak and Pasighat PWD engineers recently visited the area and took stock of the communication problem. They noticed the pathetic condition of the road and assured to take up the repair and re-carpeting of MMJ Road on priority basis.

Announcing some funds for reconstruction of the collapsed Ngorlung bridge, the minister ordered the department officials for immediate reconstruction of the work, but the PWD officials are yet to start the work due to reason best known to them.

 

Noted actor, singer, lyricist Leegang Tachang is no more

ITANAGAR, Nov 24: Rashtriya Rattan and International Gold Star Millenium Awardee in the field of Socio-Cultural and Education, Leegang Tachang passed away today at 11am at Fortis Hospital, Noida after prolonged illness. His mortal remains will be flown from Delhi tomorrow and will be taken to his native village Mudang Tage for last rites. He is survived by his wife, a daughter and two sons.

A multi-talented personality, he was one of the prominent Apatani figure in the field of art, cinema, music, fashion, socio-cultural activities and education.

To his credit he has several audio albums, which he produced, composed, wrote the lyrics and lent his voice too. Notable among them are Popi Sarmin Vol-I & II, Dree, Aha and Piimi Ri. He also acted in lead role in the first ever VHS feature film of Arunachal Pradesh “Donyi” (Hindi) in 1986 and "Meri Zindegi” in 1988. Both the films were produced and directed by Taro Chatung. For both the films, he was the music composer. The most popular video album of Tachang was "Ami Konti Kabyang Lama" in Apatani dialect.

Apart from his involvement in local film and music industry, he also worked with mainstream production houses, namely Bharatbala and Kanika who produced “Vande Mataram”.

When the concept of fashion or fashion show were at very nascent stage in Ziro Valley, he was instrumental in organizing and choreographing the two successful traditional fashion show events “Transetter” at Ziro during the year 1997 and 1999.

At the time of his demise he was holding the post of Director of Frontier School Ziro.

In a condolence meeting convened by Popi Sarmin Society at the residence of its Chairman at Naharlagun for the departed soul, the Chairman PSS, Habung Tago said that the sudden demise of Leegang Tachang, who was one of the founder members and first Convener of PSS, has caused an irreparable loss to PSS in general and Apatani society as a whole. He prayed to almighty on behalf of PSS to give enough courage and strength to bereaved family to withstand this loss.

 

Chalo Loku greetings

ITANAGAR/NEW DELHI, Nov 24: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh General (Retd) J.J. Singh and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki have conveyed warm greetings and good wishes to the people of Arunachal Pradesh on the auspicious occasion of Chalo Loku, the most important festival of the Noctes. The indigenous festival will be celebrated across the state with traditional gaiety on Sunday.

In his festival message, the Governor hoped that the festivity would ushers-in happiness and prosperity in the community and in the State.

“On the festive occasion, I join my Nocte brethren in offering my prayers to Almighty Rang for peace, tranquility and well-being of all,” the message said.

Tuki, who is currently in New Delhi, in his message, wished all on the happy occasion and expressed hope that the festival would bolster and strengthen communal harmony, bonhomie and spread peace across the state and amongst all the communities.

The festival derives its name from three words - Cha means paddy, Lo means season, and Loku means festival. Basically, Chalo Loku means harvest festival. It is celebrated in the month of October-November annually after the harvest of paddy and before the start of the new jhum cultivation and lasts for three days.

“The festival is also an occasion to bid adieu to the old year and welcome the New Year with renewed hopes. My sincere wishes are that we as Arunachalees may be blessed with a bright and prosperous year ahead,” Tuki said in the message.

In the same note, Tuki, however, expressed regret that he would not be able to attend the Chalo Loku celebrations personally as he would be away from the state.

 

 

Jhamste Gatsal reflects a new ray of hope

LUMLA, Nov 24: The tiny tots learn the art of living as breezy winds continue to sing nature’s tune atop the Da Tse (hillock) at 7,000 feet in this hilly sub-divisional HQs in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

In all, 82 of them including 55 girls study in Classes KG to VIII at Jhamste Gatsal, a private residential school, which was set up in August 2006 by Lobsang Phuntsok.

In the initial years, Jhamtse Gatsal was locally supported by Lama Sherap of Childug Charitable Foundation in land procurement and to oversee the construction of the first buildings.

Jhamtse Gatsal, meaning garden of love and compassion in Bhoti, is the brainchild of Lobsang (literally means kind heart), whose childhood was very similar to the children at Gatsal before being saved by his grandparents to give a new meaning to his life. That was the spirit which motivated Lobsang to join Sera Jhe Monastery in Coorg, Karnataka, where he was educated while learning the philosophy of life as preached by Lord Buddha.

It was in 2000, Lobsang accompanied Rev. T. G. Rinpoche to attend the Millennium Peace Conference in USA after which he was invited back to teach Buddhism in Boston. But back home, he saw life was full of agonies burdened with abject poverty and neglect which convinced him to earn in USA and with that money set up a school in his home land.

In 2003, he established Compassion in Action in USA and by 2005 he had mobilized funds for the project back home as well as set up a nonprofit organization in USA, namely Jhamtse International, which still funds the Jhamtse Gatsal Children’s Community. It also provides quality technical support besides sending volunteer teachers who works for months, even years, said Vasudha Wanchoo, Managing Director, who has been associated with Lobsang in the project since 2005 in USA.

Amidst materialism pushing humanity towards doom, man-making institutions are very rare and Jhamtse Gatsal is one of them.

The students while being taught the nuances of life are doctrined into the IT world at the wi-fi enabled campus. The 6.15 AM to 10 PM daily routine and the curriculum clearly indicate steps to protect and promote mother tongue, culture and traditions.

“We teach experiential education,” Lobsang said, while indicating the solar-powered fenced kitchen garden involving the students that has produced vegetables worth Rs. 26,000 during the last four months.

 “Hygiene and quality of food, given at the advice of American experts, are intended to maintain the health and minds of the children for their balanced growth. They lead a very disciplined life while reading in CBSE syllabus,” Lobsang said, adding there is no fee to the children’s families who are either very poor or none to support.

Bulk of funds come through individual donations, while Thiel Fellows – bright and young American kids funded by an NGO run by the primary donor of Facebook – come to Jhamste Gatsal to help.

Jhamtse International sends volunteers for teaching and to extend various help, Lobsang informed. Romina Barria, a Science and Mathematics teacher from Santiago, Chile, and Adam Johnson from Encinitas, USA and Romina De Angelis from Turin, Italy, both English teachers, have been here for the last seven months while Chris Rueth from San Diego in USA, arrived few days ago for the second time with a gift of 20 hand-held computers (tablets) of Rs. 5,000 each for the students.

Caroline Pappas from Texas, USA, and Bridget Babcock from Wisconsin, USA, came here recently to be volunteer tutors for one month.

“We are very happy here,” both of them playing with the children said, while Angelis said she would take up a research project on the impact of Jhamste Gatsal on the socio-economic life of the people of Arunachal Pradesh.

There are about 30 staff members, including teachers, managerial, ministerial and volunteers headed by Lobsang as Director though for the students he is Genla (spiritual friend).

The Jhamtse Gatsal management was highly appreciative of the wholehearted support of the local community, particularly legislator Jambey Tashi. However, many local leaders explained the selfless service being rendered by the staff members ensures that the children become good human beings – the essence of education.

Siram inspects Pasighat Gen. Hospital

PASIGHAT, Nov 24: Education Minister Bosiram Siram visited General Hospital, Pasighat to take stock of the existing health facilities and future planning for providing better health care facilities in the hospital.

The minister inspected the operation theatre, corridor, ANM kitchen, postmortem hall, Casualty, ICU and General Wards, 10 bedded Ayush hospital site and also renovation works of OST, NSCU.

He distributed fruits to indoor patients of general ward and wished them for speedy recovery.

Later, in a formal meeting held at the office chamber of the JDHS (T&R), the minister had detailed discussions with Dr. Kabang Lego, Joint Director of Health Services (T&R), Dr. Onik Moyong, Medical Superintendent and other Medical officers and officials on procurement of CT Scan machine and power transformer, setting up Imaging unit, construction of GNM Nursing school, procurement of hearse vehicle (Dead body carrier), staffs’ quarter, garage, rewiring of few buildings etc.

The minister assured to take up the issues with the Health ministry and the Chief Minister on priority.

He stated that GH Pasighat is one of the most technologically advanced hospitals in the state. He appreciated the cleanliness of the hospital and stressed for plantation inside the hospital campus.  The minister advised the hospital authority to take all precautionary measures against spread of infectious diseases and to serve the people with dedication.

The minister was accompanied by State Sevadal Secretary Oyin Yomso, Bosing ZPM Namukh Taloh and others. DIPRO
